Overview

Escherichia coli is a normal gram-negative bacterium in our intestines, but some strains of Escherichia coli produce toxins causing food poisoning. These strains are referred to as STEC/ VTEC (shiga toxin or verotoxin-producing E. coli) or EHEC (enterohaemorrhagic E. coli). The toxins they produce can cause bloody diarrhea and Haemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), a severe complication with the potential for fatality.
Q-PLUS™- Escherichia coli STEC Detection Kit is a Real-Time PCR based on Taqman® probes signaling after the amplification of stx1 and stx2 genes associated with cytotoxicity and eae gene associated with the intestinal epithelium adhesion capability (FAM probe). The kit also includes an Internal Positive Control (ROX probe) for monitoring PCR inhibition and false negative results. Negative Control is used to check the absence of contamination.
Q-PLUS™- Escherichia coli STEC Detection Kit is an excellent tool for a rapid and highly sensitive of STEC E. coli detection in food and feed samples. It allows molecular detection of pathogenic E. coli in samples previously enriched, reducing the time of well-established microbiological diagnostic process.
